Weissner-American Brewery

The Wiessner (later American) Brewery in East Baltimore is one of the city’s most iconic surviving industrial landmarks. The structure was built in 1887 as a Teutonic Brewery during an era when German brewers used architecture as a form of branding. In this case, the exterior craftsmanship gives you a sense of grandeur reflecting old world pride and identity. Today, the building has been repurposed for community benefit as Humanim, a nonprofit providing workforce development and social services.
