Rogers Park - Chicago IL
Although Rogers Park began as an affluent suburb, the completion of the elevated trains northward in 1908 urbanized this part of Chicago into a densely populated neighborhood with a dynamic mix of immigrant influenced institutions and a lakefront-oriented atmosphere. Set on Sheridan Road next to the Loyola campus until the late 1980s, the terra-cotta façade of the Grenada was designed to overwhelm you before you even stepped inside, and the details tell a story of ambition, spectacle, and craftsmanship that defined the city's north shore in the 1920s.
