West Loop - Chicago IL
Originally built for light industrial use in the 1890s, this discrete building on Jefferson Street is the birth place of Chicago's most important musical export to the world. Frankie Knuckles, the resident DJ from 1977 to 1982, created a unique fusion of genres that revolutionized dance music and club culture. Utilizing extended edits, a Roland drum machine, and emotional build ups, the rythms of The Warehouse spread to the UK, Europe, and eventually the world, reshaping the direction of global music known simply as 'House Music'.
